World Missions

Hello everyone,
As you can see, we have changed our name to World Missions. This is to reflect the changes taking place in mission around the world as well as the growing need for mission here in the UK. As a committee we want to support our missionaries as best we can and this is just the first step.

However, it is not just our missionaries who are called to mission. We all are. We want to support you as individuals and as churches in Mission. We want to hear from you about how you are spreading the gospel and how we as a committee can help. Whether it is talking to someone in the supermarket, short term mission trips, or if you feel that God is calling you to dedicate your life to Mission, then we are ready, willing and able to support you.

I know I ask this at every annual meeting but I am going to ask again. Please, pray for our missionaries. Pray for them and the work God has called them to.

Thank you
Carrie O’Nions
World Missions Organiser

The World Missions section of the Connexion promotes interest in the spreading of the gospel to people of other lands and generates practical support for such work. There is no Independent Methodist missionary society, but missionaries from member churches of the Connexion work with other missionary societies and receive support from the Connexion.

The department’s activities include:

Welcome and farewell meetings for missionaries before and after their periods of service.
The ‘U4 Mission’ project which encourages children to take an interest in missionary work.
Liaison with missionary societies.
Advising and interviewing prospective missionary candidates.
Organisation of deputation visits for missionaries who are currently at home.
Raising money to provide financial support for missions

Home Missions

Mission work doesn’t begin across oceans or in distant places—it begins right where we are.

Before we look outward, we are called to look inward: to our own hearts, our homes, our churches, and our communities. The gospel takes root locally before it bears fruit globally. The way we love, serve, forgive, and care for those closest to us is the first and clearest witness to Christ’s transforming power.

When mission begins at home, everyday faith becomes visible—through acts of kindness, hospitality, justice, and compassion. Our streets, schools, workplaces, and neighbourhoods become mission fields, and ordinary lives become extraordinary testimonies of God at work. From this strong local foundation, we are then equipped and sent to share God’s love.
